Aage Christiansen mid-century 1960s teak rocking chair and matching armchair for re-upholstery

Aage Christiansen mid-century 1960s teak rocking chair and matching armchair for re-upholstery .

Aage Christiansen isn’t one of the best known Danish designers of the mid-century era , but it seems as if he’s best known for his sofa and chair designs . He designed these 2 chairs for the small quality Danish maker Erhardsen and Andersen , also known as ERAN  . The design looks to be late 1950s to early 1960s , and the chairs themselves to date to a similar period . One of the chairs has a branded Made In Denmark mark .

We have cleaned and oiled the teak frames and they’re now looking splendid . We’ve re-upholstered them in a joyous daffodil yellow 100% wool from the Camira Synergy range . Stunning is a word used too often , but in this case we think it’s well deserved !

. The back and seat are moulded in a similar way to those chairs by British firm Lurashell as well as some well known Scandinavian designs of the era .

We’ve found a few of both the rocking version and the armchair illustrated online , but not yet seen any offered together . We will sell them singly , but it would be nice to think that they could remain together for the next stage of their lives .

The organic form of the teak along with their small size make them a little bit special , and at this stage we’d prefer customers to chose their own fabric so that can make them unique . We will be cleaning the solid teak frames and then oiling them as they’re currently a little grubby , but this is an easy job when the teak is the quality being used in Denmark at the time .
