Norwegian 1960s leather Minerva sofa by Torbjorn Afdal for Bruksbo
A superb quality 1960s 3 seater sofa which will have cost a lot of money when new . The tan leather is in good vintage condition and shows little sign of use . We also have a matching pair of armchairs , one of which had obviously been used more regularly than this stylish sofa . We’ve cleaned and oiled the rosewood frame .
It’s not labelled but it’s a known design which wouldn’t have been made in large quantities . We found a couple of 4 seater sofas on an image search , but no 3 seaters . Normally 4 seaters are much rarer than 3 seat sofas .
Tjorbjorn Afdal is probably best known for his lovely benches and also magazine and LP racks which were also made by the quality maker Bruksbo . When people think of Scandinavian design , it’s usually Danish that comes to mind , but the best Norwegian designers like Afdal and Frederik Kayser were extremely talented and successful back in the day .
The quality of detailing on the frame and legs is top notch and the result is a piece that if it could be found new today would cost far far more than our asking price , but then that is the case with the vast majority of the vintage items we sell .
