Peter Hvidt + Orla Molgaard-Nielsen early 1960s teak Minerva sofa by France + Son Denmark
Solid teak framed sofa with chromed steel fittings which has been cleaned and oiled and is in lovely condition.
You will see some of these lovely sofas without buttoning but this one was buttoned when we got it and even though there is a lot of careful extra work involved in the stitching and buttoning we thought it was worth that effort. It has been upholstered using the original sprung cushions which were in very good condition. They have been lined with a crib 5 barrier fabric bringing them up to fire standards and then covered in a Camira fabric, a hard wearing woven fabric of wild flax and wool which is fibre dyed creating a lovely textured fabric, this one in a natural cream colour with a lovely orange. The colour has not photographed exactly, it looks slightly pink, so we can send a sample if you require.
France and Son were one of the top Danish makers in the 1960’s and you’ll find their interesting history with a little research online. The Minerva range was introduced c 1961 and still looks modern over 50 years later with nice clean lines and great detailing.
