Peter Hvidt teak gateleg dining table for France & Son
Peter Hvidt and his partner Orla Molgaard-Nielsen designed this fabulous table in the late 1950s ( the Danish Design Index says pre-1960 ) for the top quality maker of France & Son. It will have been produced in the early 1960s.
Unlike a lot of large pieces from the period its made using solid planks of teak , and will have been tremendously expensive at the time. The lovely stylish legs with their solid brass fittings are a great example of Danish mid-century design at its peak. If you want to know more about France & Son there is a tremendously informative blog about them written by Tim Bubb on mcminteriors.blogspot.co.uk.
It has its original France + Son disc label inset to the underside .
It seats 6 comfortably, and 8 less so.
NOT THE ONE IN PHOTOS BUT ANOTHER WHICH HAS RECENTLY ARRIVED . IT WILL BE GETTING A LIGHT CLEAN AND POLISH IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS AS ALTHOUGH IT’S IN GREAT VINTAGE CONDITION IT COULD DO WITH A SPRUCE UP AFTER OVER 50 YEARS OF CAREFUL USE
