Rare Mid-Century Guy Rogers ” Delta ” teak armchair 1964

Rare Mid-Century Guy Rogers ” Delta” teak armchair 1964

We bought this lovely chair thinking it was Danish , but we’ve now discovered after a lot of research in an 1964 trade magazine that it was introduced by Guy Rogers of Liverpool in that year . At the time it was available in this high-back version for £45 10 shillings , and in a low-back version for £42 10 shillings . This is about £935 adjusted for inflation in the UK since that date . When we bought it we couldn’t find another online , and even by adding Guy Rogers it still doesn’t come up on a google picture search ! At the time Guy Rogers must have sold thousands of Manhattan chairs as they turn up for sale frequently , whereas this stylish model must have been too advanced and modern for British taste !

The wraparound frame is quite unusual and is a feature that was used by only a few  Mid-Century designers such as Finn Juhl and Bent Ruda and used by makers such as Bovenkamp of Holland . It’s beautifully made and has small copper finished screw heads which are also unusual .

We’ve cleaned and oiled the teak frame and it looks great . Our upholsterer will re-upholster it in customers own choice of fabric , she will need 3.5 metres if its a plain fabric . The re-upholstery , but not the fabric is included in the price . You can either arrange your choice of fabric or we are happy to get samples sent from the various suppliers we use and will also give advice if required .

A lot of mid-century chairs have quite low backs , but this one gives plenty of back support with its shaped high back .

Your chance to turn a rare chair into an unique one by choosing from the myriad of colours and fabrics that are available today .
