Scarce Fyne Ladye teak chest of drawers by Leonard G Brinkworth 1965
This is the first time that we’ve seen this lovely chest of drawers apart from in an article in the Cabinet Maker from 1965 . Fyne Ladye Furniture is rarely labelled and it was only because we’d seen it in the article that we knew who had made it . We’ve not seen one online before . Fyne Ladye are best known for the lovely pieces designed by Richard Hornby and made by them c1960 to 1965 . In 1964 Leonard Brinkworth who had worked for them for a while was appointed as their chief designer . This range was launched in January 1965 along with a dining suite also by Brinkworth . The 1965 article mentioned that the handles were rosewood but this one definitely has teak handles . We don’t know when Fyne Ladye closed but think it was possibly in the late 1960s as nothing appears by them much after the mid 1960s . We bought it from a house in Hayling Island near Portsmouth along with an A Younger teak dining set that came with a 1965 receipt .
It’s been cleaned and oiled as it had a few small marks after over 50 years of use . It looks really lovely now and is ready to grace any home . A rare and stylish piece of good size offering plenty of storage . Its 92cms wide at its widest , 115cms high and 47cms at its deepest .
Fyne Ladye pieces are always great quality and this is no exception .
We will be uploading a blog about this piece in the next few days .
