Scarce Mogens Kold Danish teak chest designed by Arne Hovmand Olsen
Mogens Kold was one of the best known Danish makers in the 1960s , and most of their pieces are well marked or labelled and this sleek mid-sized chest of drawers is no exception .
Arne Hovmand Olsen ( 1919 -1989 ) designed many of their pieces in the 1950s and 1960s and is today again well known not only for his designs for Mogens Kold , but also for a Dutch maker . Some of his quirky dining chair designs are particularly sought after as is the long sideboard from the same series as this chest of drawers .
It is the long sideboard with the same drawer design with clever flush invisible handles that is normally seen from this range . We had the exact same chest of drawers for sale about 10 years ago , but have seen very few since then . Indeed a recent google image search found only one in rosewood for sale . This was described as being designed in 1964 at the same time as the sideboard . Philip Hussey of White + Newton of Portsmouth designed a similar floating sideboard in the late 1960s which was probably influenced by this design .
Its a really nice stylish piece and it’s been given a light clean and oil , and is in lovely condition with no obvious marks or scratches or other damage . It’s minimalist lines still look amazingly modern over 50 years after it was designed and made which is the test of a great design .
Its 80cms wide , 71cms high and 44cms deep .
