SCARCE TOOTHILL 1960S AFROMOSIA EXTENDING SOFA / DAYBED FOR RE-UPHOLSTERY

Scarce Toothill 1960s afromosia extending  sofa / daybed for re-upholstery

R.W.Toothill of Newton Aycliffe made some very stylish sofas and chairs in the 1960s. This is only the second time we have come across this model, one other recently which has been fully re upholstered for a customer already and sold. This one came with a pair of matching Toothill armchairs which we have listed separately. We’re giving buyers a rare opportunity to choose their own colour and fabric rather than imposing our ideas.

The arm pads pull out so that you can lie really comfortably on it if you want to use it as a daybed or even occasionally for sleeping on from time to time .

Our price will include new foam cushions where necessary and also re-upholstery in your choice of fabric from Abraham Moon , Camira , Warwick or Romo . The fabric should be from one of their ranges priced at between £40-£60 a metre . Have a look at our www.pureimaginations.co.uk website for fabric suggestions , or discuss possibilities with our upholsterer who can arrange for samples to be sent . Some colours don’t photograph as well as others so it’s always advisable to see the actual fabric before buying .

Our price will also include cleaning and oiling the solid afromosia frame . This sofa has been re-upholstered in the 1980s or 90s in an oatmeal type fabric . Toothill sofas and chairs were often upholstered in a bright orange wool in the 1960s , but they also sometimes used a creamy artificial sheepskin type fabric also !

Its 207 cms wide normally , and with the arms pulled out it becomes 252cms . With the arms pulled out the seat width is 186cms ( 6ft 1″ ) without the cushions , so plenty of space for most people to lie in comfort . With the arms in the seat width is around 150cms .
