Stunning rare McIntosh Starburst rosewood table + 6 chairs
The table we think may be an unique luxury version of a more standard rosewood circular table they produced in the late 1960s possibly made as an Exhibition piece along with an amazing sideboard that we bought with it .
The rosewood McIntosh circular table is in itself quite rare and one is currently priced at Buy It Now or Best Offer on Ebay with only 4 chairs priced at £1995 which we think is over-ambitious as we’re asking £1750 for this possibly unique standout table with 6 chairs . The radial rosewood top sits on the standard mahogany ( we think ) frame but matched with the black laminate centre to produce something that’s really special . This radial veneer was a McIntosh speciality , mainly used in teak it’s even more dynamic in rosewood . We’ve got a rosewood circular coffee table , and seen others , but never a dining table . The 6 chairs are the same ” mahogany ” as the table frame and legs , and are much heavier and more nicely made than the teak version that’s quite commonly seen .
4 chairs seat very neatly inside the table when not in use , but not quite as neatly as the iconic Frem Rojle Roundette set from Denmark .
The table is 121.5cms in diameter and the leaf adds 46cms .
Bought new in Scotland c 1970 , it’s had 1 careful spinster owner from new , but although in good vintage condition it has benefited from a light clean and re-polish to bring it back to its best . The black laminate is in good vintage condition , but in certain strong lights you may just spot an old heat ring mark of cup size . Formica and other similar laminates back in the 1960s were much thicker than the same ones today which are wafer thin in comparison .
The matching sideboard is listed separately as the coffee table that came from a different source .
