Pair of 1960s Mogens Kold teak chests of drawers a recent surprise find !
We’re always looking for pieces by Mogens Kold as they’re always stylish and nicely made . 1960s Mogens Kold pieces are usually labelled somewhere with a lovely disc label being set in to the frame . Their 1950s pieces are usually stamped . Mogens Kold like France + Sons were very focused on export to the UK and US so their pieces were often retailed in up-market British independent retailers at the time . The British economy stuttered by about 1968 so the 10 years prior to this date is when much Danish furniture came to the UK .
We spotted these 2 lovely chests in a small Scottish auction and were pleased to get them . Simply described as vintage teak chests of drawers we bid on the basis that they were stylish and obviously made so went to our top bid on both to get them without knowing anything else about them . When they arrived we were pleased to spot their Mogens Kold labels which as so often were only visible when they were upended .
Finding the labels hasn’t effected our pricing but does confirm our decision to bid strongly for them . As with all good quality teak pieces from the late 1950s and early 1960s they cleaned up wonderfully with just a light clean .
The main designer for Mogens Kold at the time was Arne Hovmand Olsen , but other accomplished designers also designed some of their pieces at the time .
