A top quality Danish teak sideboard made c1960. Currently listed in very good vintage condition. The detailing and finishing of manufacture show Danish cabinet making at its best.
Johannes Andersen may not have been as well known as Hans Wegner or Finn Juhl, but his many successful designs make him one of the top ten Danish designers of the mid 20th century. He designed a few pieces for Uldum Mobelfabrik who made this stunning piece.
Unlike so many pieces you see today, and even from the 60s and 70s, this piece was not made with the idea of “how cheap can we make it” , but on the basis of “how beautifully and well can this be made ”. There were definitely no corners cut in this design to make it more easily or cheaply , and as a result its extremely heavy , even for a Danish 1960s sideboard . The interior fittings are in a lovely light oak, which contrasts with the rich grain of the rosewood.
