Grethe Jalk 1960s teak sofa for France + Son of Denmark
We bought this lovely Danish teak sofa from the family of the original owners who bought it in new in the mid 1960s . It was a little faded at one end , so we’ve cleaned it and oiled it , and that’s no longer a problem as like most quality teak pieces of that age they are not difficult to restore if well looked after .
It originally had 1 long sprung cushion to the back and 1 to the seat which is unusual as they’re usually found with 3 cushions as in some of the photos . The sprung cushions were well used and beyond renovation so our price includes new foam cushions , and our upholsterer will make new zipped cushions in customers own fabric . As you’ll see on this site we recommend fabrics by Eleanor Pritchard ( the set in these photos is one of her designs ) , Abraham Moon , Romo , Camira and Warwick . Our upholsterer can advise on these and arrange samples to be sent , or alternatively you can send your own . It will need 4.5 metres of standard width plain fabric . Alternatively we can sell it with these original Danish sprung cushions in the Eleanor Pritchard fabric .
The original Danish loop springing to the seat is in good vintage condition and lasts for many years , and is still made and available to buy if ever needed .
